Server Checker — New Hytale Tool on AlaHytale

By AlaHytale — March 13, 2026

Good news for the Hytale community — AlaHytale now features a brand-new tool: the Hytale Server Checker. Enter any server's hostname or IP address, hit the button, and instantly see whether it's online — along with real-time player counts, server version, latency, and geolocation data. It's free, needs no account, and works straight from your browser.

What Is the Hytale Server Checker?

The Server Checker is a real-time diagnostic tool built specifically for Hytale server operators and players. Whether you're troubleshooting a community server, trying to connect to a friend's private game, or just checking if your favourite server is up — the Server Checker gives you an instant answer.

No registration required. No plugins needed on the server side for a basic status check. Just enter the hostname or IP, choose a port (default: 5520), and click Check. The result appears in about a second.

How It Works — 3 Query Methods

AlaHytale uses three independent query methods and tries each one in order until it gets a reply. This layered approach means the checker can reach a wide range of servers — from official-style game servers to professionally hosted ones.

📡
HyQuery UDP (port 5520)
A lightweight binary query on the server's UDP query port — fast and accurate. It reads the MOTD, player counts, server version, build date, and commit hash directly from the server's response.
🔌
Nitrado Query Plugin (HTTP port 5523)
An HTTP-based query for servers that expose the Nitrado query endpoint. It returns structured JSON with server info, the player list, installed plugins, and active worlds.
🌐
Community API fallback
A community-maintained pinger used as a last resort. It covers servers that don't expose a direct query endpoint, so you still get a status answer.

What Information Do You Get?

When a server responds, the Checker displays a detailed result card with every field it managed to read:

  • 🟢 Online / Offline status — with an animated indicator and response latency in milliseconds
  • 💬 MOTD — the server's message of the day, shown in gold in a highlighted panel
  • 👥 Players online / max slots — with a percentage fill indicator
  • 🔖 Server version — the full build string, build date, and commit hash
  • 🌍 Geolocation — the resolved IP address, country, region, city, and ISP
  • 🧩 Plugins — a list of installed plugins with version and enabled/disabled status (Nitrado servers)
  • 🗺️ Worlds — active game worlds with player counts (Nitrado servers)

Who Is the Server Checker For?

The tool is useful for two groups in the Hytale community:

  • Server owners and admins — confirm your server is reachable from the outside world, watch live player counts, verify that a restart actually brought the server back up, and check which build version is running after an update.
  • Players — make sure a server is online before you launch the game, see how busy it is right now, and check where it's hosted so you know what latency to expect.

If you run your own server, it pairs well with our Whitelist Creator for managing who can join, and the Hytale Version History page so you can see what changed in the build your server reports.

Troubleshooting: Why a Server Might Show as Offline

A server you know is running can still come back as offline. The most common reasons:

  • Wrong port — the query port may differ from the game port. Try the default 5520, or the port your host gave you.
  • Firewall — the query port has to be open to outside traffic, not just the game port.
  • Query not enabled — some servers don't expose a query endpoint at all; in that case only the community fallback can reach them.
  • DNS — if the hostname doesn't resolve, try the raw IP address instead.
  • The server really is down — restarting, updating, or crashed.

How to Use the Server Checker

  • Enter the hostname or IP — type or paste the server address (e.g. play.myserver.net)
  • Set the port — the default is 5520; change it if your server uses a custom query port
  • Click "Check" — the tool tries all three methods automatically and returns results in seconds
  • Read the results — server info, player count, and network details are shown in organised cards

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Server Checker free?

Yes — completely free, with no account and no limits. Check as many servers as you like.

Do I need to install anything on my server?

No installation is needed to be checked. For the fastest and most detailed result your server should expose its query port, but even without that the community fallback can usually still report a basic status.

Does it work for private or whitelisted servers?

Yes, as long as the server is reachable from the internet. The checker only reads public status data — it never joins the server or needs login access.

How accurate are the player counts?

They're read live from the server's own response at the moment you run the check, so they reflect the real player count at that time.
