Hytale Update 4: 500+ Blocks, Voice Chat, Emotes & More
By AlaHytale — March 26, 2026
Hytale Update 4 has landed — and it's the biggest Early Access update yet. Released on March 26, 2026 as Release Build 12, this update brings over 500 new blocks, proximity voice chat, an emote system, a massive potion rebalance, and dozens of quality-of-life improvements that reshape how you build, fight, and communicate in Orbis.
As Hypixel Studios noted: "Not the flashiest stuff, but it's necessary. Once the foundations are in place, content will start rolling out fast."
Blocks & Building — 500+ New Blocks
Update 4 dramatically expands the building palette. Four entirely new block material sets — Limestone, Slate, Chalk, and Cooled Magma — arrive with full variant suites. On top of that, stair and half slab variants have been added for Rock, Cloth, Smooth Clay, and Dirt.
- ~500 new blocks across all material types
- 5 new greyboxing block sets for Creative Mode prototyping
- Cybercity decorative set: Neon Signs, Windows, Posters, Arcade Machine
- Red and Orange Flags added for decoration
- New Creative Inventory subcategories: Wood, Metal, Cloth, Technical (replaced Structural)
- All Rock/Wood/Metal full blocks now craftable into Half Slabs and Stairs at Builder's Workbench
- Gold Ingots can now be converted to Gold Bricks via Builder's Workbench
With the new crafting rules, every full Rock, Wood, and Metal block can now be turned into stairs and half slabs at the Builder's Workbench — no more searching for specific recipes. This alone opens thousands of new building combinations.
Proximity Voice Chat
The most requested social feature arrives in Update 4: spatial proximity voice chat. Voice volume fades naturally with distance, reverb echoes in caves, and sound is muffled underwater — creating an immersive audio experience that makes multiplayer feel alive.
- Spatial audio — volume attenuates with distance for realistic conversations
- Environmental effects — cave reverb, underwater muffling
- Push-to-talk + voice activation — choose your preferred mode
- Noise suppression — built-in for cleaner audio
- Per-player mute in the Server Player list
- Character portrait appears on HUD when nearby players speak
- Avatar mouth animates while talking
- Disabled by default with parental controls support
Voice chat is disabled by default. Players must explicitly enable it, and parental controls are fully supported. You can mute individual players at any time from the server player list.
Emote Wheel
Express yourself with the new Emote Wheel. Hold X to open the radial menu and select from five launch emotes:
- Chicken — flap those arms
- Kill — victory celebration
- Laugh — infectious laughter
- Punch — fist bump the air
- Tongue — silly and playful
Looping emotes display a visual indicator, and — best of all — modders can create custom emotes, opening the door for community-created expressions.
Combat & Items — Potion Overhaul
The combat balance gets a significant adjustment with a complete potion system rework. The Standard Potion now heals 33% instantly + 27% over time (previously a flat 60% instant heal), making combat more tactical and strategic.
- Potion rebalance: 33% instant + 27% delayed healing
- Alchemy decoupled from Farming Bench — high-tier recipes now standalone
- New Copper and Iron Sickles craftable at Farming Workbench
- Temple Golems now drop element-specific gems:
- Emerald (Earth)
- Ruby (Fire)
- Sapphire (Water)
- Topaz (Air)
- Pink Crystal Shards now drop from Pink Crystals
- Crafting time reductions: Builder's Workbench, Campfire, Bedroll, Chest, and Crude Torch are now instant
Character Customization — 7 New Hairstyles
Your character just got more expressive with seven new hairstyles, focusing on Afro-textured and dreadlock styles:
Several cosmetic items were also renamed for clarity: Basic Sandals → Leather Sandals, Long Sleeved Tunic → Cotton Tunic, Puffy Ponytail → Puffy Bun.
Additionally, a new falling animation plays when your character drops from a great height — adding more visual feedback to traversal.
Revolve Creative Tool
Creative Mode builders get a powerful new tool: Revolve. It lets you paste rotations of your current selection any number of times — or fully around a center point. Perfect for creating circular structures, symmetrical designs, and complex geometric patterns without manual rotation.
Audio Improvements
The sound design receives substantial polish in Update 4:
- Dual source blending with center source for a better headphone experience
- Genesis track returned to Zone 4; Traveling Band added to Zone 1 at night
- Placeholder music and ambience for Zone 4 caves and sewers
- Block sound clustering — looping ambient sounds like rain on water
- Conditional ambient sounds — rain on windows reacts dynamically
- Pausing game now muffles non-UI sounds instead of silencing them completely
Quality of Life
A collection of highly requested improvements that streamline daily gameplay:
- Multiple Hytale instances can now run simultaneously
- Hold Drop Item button + mouseover inventory to quickly drop/destroy entire stacks
- Backpack now shows used slot count
- Gatherable items show "Pick" hint; doors show "Open" hint
- Personal, shared, and player markers are always visible on the Map
- Complex strings now work in commands (e.g.,
/say,/banwith apostrophes) - Backup Management UI — create and restore world backups directly from the launcher
Update 4 lands in Week 10 of Hytale's Early Access journey. With the foundations solidifying, the team promises content will "start rolling out fast" from here on. Check our complete version history for the full timeline of every update since launch.
